This Week @ South Shore UMC

WELCOME W. ALAN SMITH, PhD and A WORD OF GRATITUDE

This Sunday it is my privilege to welcome a beloved professor and dear friend, W. Alan Smith, PhD in worship leadership at South Shore UMC. Alan is Emeritus Professor of Religion at Florida Southern College. He retired from FSC in 2015, following 28 years on the faculty of Religion and Philosophy. Alan is an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and has pastored congregations in the Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama-Northwest Florida, Pacific Southwest, and Florida regions. He has lectured in England, Scotland, and Finland as well as at numerous universities in the United States. His academic credentials include advanced degrees from the Florida State University, Vanderbilt Divinity School, and the Claremont School of Theology, from which he earned the Ph.D. degree. He is the author of two books and numerous articles in academic journals. Alan is married to Dee Smith, the father of Nate and Skye, and the grandfather of Logan and Asher (who joined the family this May!)

Thank you, Alan for your leadership in worship this morning. I appreciate you sharing your bold witness with the SSUMC Family. I am grateful for our friendship and to be in ministry with you. Love, Pastor Sarah

SUMMER 2020 IS TOTAL REQUEST LIVE AT SSUMC

Have you ever thought, "I would like to hear a sermon about (insert your topic here)..."

Do you have a particular hymn or praise song that you are itching to sing?

Send Pastor Sarah your sermon topic and musical submissions to sarah@southshoreumc.com by Wednesday, June 24th to help shape our Summer Worship that is Total Request Live!

SSUMC *ANTICIPATES RETURNING* TO IN-PERSON WORSHIP – JULY 5, 2020

SSUMC anticipates returning to our regular in-person Sunday worship services the first Sunday of July with our Traditional Service at 8:30am and Contemporary Service at 11am.

SSUMC continues monitoring COVID-19 Infection Rates in our local area. In seeking to do no harm and to do good, if SSUMC Leadership determines delaying our return to in-person worship in order to support and preserve the public health of our congregation, we will do so and update the congregation accordingly.

SSUMC will also continue streaming our services via FacebookLive each Sunday.

We invite you to prepare for our return to in-person worship by reading Pastor Sarah’s sermon manuscripts from May 24, May 31, and June 7 as they detail adaptations made to our church facility and congregational practices as we strive to do no harm, do good, and attend upon the ordinances of God with public health and public safety being at the forefront of our minds.

These manuscripts are available by emailing the Church Office via toni@southshoreumc.com.

SAVE THE DATE: JULY REPLENISH RESTORE FOOD DRIVE ~ JULY 1, 2020

SSUMC’s Replenish Restore Food Drive for July will be Wednesday, July 1 from 10am to 1pm.

Please drive by and drop off your non-perishable food donations in support of our ministry partnership with Restore, a ministry of Riverview First UMC.

Our June Drive was an incredible success and witness of God working in our midst even in the midst of great challenge. We hope our July drive be an even greater blessing to those most vulnerable and experiencing food insecurities during this time.

*Donations received in paper bags greatly ease transportation and delivery. Thank you!*
