PRAYER FOR THE DAY OF PENTECOST
From The United Methodist Hymnal 542
God of grace, you sent the promised gift of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and the women, upon Mary the mother of Jesus and upon his brothers. Fill your church with power,
kindle flaming hearts within us, and cause us to proclaim your mighty works in every tongue, that all may call on you and be saved; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
LITURGICAL COLOR: RED
The paraments – the cloths on the cross and pulpit – are now red signifying we are in the Season of Pentecost. On the day of Pentecost we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church. The color red reminds us of the “flames” that appeared above the heads of the faithful gathered in worship as described in Acts 2.
