SSUMC partnered with HCC in the MLK Day of Service, A Day On Not A Day Off, 2017.
Our grant for 2017 was awarded on November, 2016 for $4,000.00.
A food drive was held at SSUMC where the parishioners graciously donated non perishable food items to fill the Backpacks on a Mission pantry.
SSUMC volunteers along with HCC Student Government volunteers picked up the packaged food order, delivered the items to SSUMC and stocked the pantry. This purchased packaged food was able to serve 122 children for eight weeks.
Third graders at Corr Elementary School once again partnered with SSUMC in presenting an MLK Essay Contest. Out of 160 third graders, 16 were selected from their peers to present their essays at the contest. The top three finalists were awarded gift cards while the remaining finalists were awarded Honorable Mention Certificates. The students learned the history and legacy of Dr. King as they researched and wrote their essays.
