THIS WEEK @ SOUTH SHORE

LITURGICAL COLOR: WHITE for CHRISTMASTIDE and EPIPHANY

The paraments – the cloths on the cross and pulpit – are white in celebration of Christmastide,

also known as the twelve days of Christmas, which continues till January 5.

Traditions during this season include singing carols, giving gifts, sharing meals,

and worshipping with your family

and your church family.

During this season Christians in the Eastern Church use a specific greeting; the leader says, “Christ Is born!” and the many respond,

“Glorify him!”

On Epiphany, we remember the Magi visiting the Christ Child and presenting him with gifts.

We also remember the star that guided the Magi to Christ and that led them home by another way. During this season of the Christian year, we remember that Jesus is the light of the world, and that he calls us to carry his light into the world.

SSUMC OFFICE HOURS

The Church Office will be closed Monday,

January 1. The Church Office will reopen for regular office hours beginning Tuesday,

NEW SUNDAY MORNING SMALL GROUP OPPORTUNITY MEETS NEXT WEEK

Beginning January 7, join Rebecca Crotwell and Cindy Bays during the 9:40hr in Rm 115/116 for a 6wk study of The Call: The Life and Message of the Apostle Paul.

Follow the journeys of Paul, beginning with his dramatic conversion, as he spread the Gospel through modern-day Greece and Turkey.

Travel to the Early Church sites, explore Paul's conversations with the Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Thessalonians, and experience faith through Christ's greatest teacher and missionary. Register for this class in the Welcome Center today!

UPCOMING CAFE FAITH STUDY | BEGINNING JANUARY 10

Join Pastor Sarah and friends as we read and study together Rev. Dr. Paul Chilcote’s text, Active Faith: Resisting Four Dangerous Ideologies in the Wesleyan Way. We will reflect upon the ideologies of Christian fundamentalism, Nationalism, Dispensationalism, and Antinomianism and fortify thoughtful responses to them.

Participants are encouraged to obtain a personal copy of the text for this study. Café Faith gathers in Rm 106 and via Zoom @ Noon each Wednesday. Request Zoom credentials via

sarah@southshoreumc.com or register in the Welcome Center.
