PRAYER IN HONOR AND HOPE FOR REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY
“For Courage to Do Justice” – UMH 456
O Lord, open my eyes that I may see the needs of others. Open my ears that I may hear their cries;
Open my heart so that they need not be without succor;
Let me not be afraid to defend the weak because of the anger of the strong, Nor afraid to defend the poor because of the anger of the rich.
Show me where love and hope and faith are needed,
And use me to bring them to those places.
And so open my eyes and my ears
That I may this coming day be able to do some work of peace for thee. Amen.
LITURGICAL COLOR: GREEN
The paraments – the cloths on the cross and pulpit – are now green signifying we are in a period of “ordinary time” in the church year. Ordinary Time is a period between major church seasons; the Season of Christmas ended and we are in ordinary time until the Season of Lent begins. During Ordinary Time we study Scripture texts that encourage us to mature in our daily expressions of faith so that we become more holy and whole persons.
