The Tampa Bay Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA), under the leadership and direction of Carlton Brown, Chapter Representative was organized in September 1993 along with Gene Watson and Cheryl Gibson. This Community Based Choir has approximately 80 active members. The Chapter meets twice a month on Saturday after the 1st and 3rd Sunday at the New Mt. Zion M. B. Church of Tampa, Inc. which is our home base. The Chapter has ministered throughout the State of Florida and other States across the U.S.

We are affiliated with the National Organization which holds Annual Conventions yearly across the U.S. During that week there are over 100 Classes offered, many are also College Accredited. Also, during that week there are several Live Recordings of various departments, with songs written by Artist across the U.S. There are more than 125 chapters in the U.S., Canada, Japan and Bahamas.

The Choir gives back to the community in many ways. We are an active partner with Tampa Bay Paint Your Heart Heat. During the beginning of the School year, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays the Chapter adopts families needing assistant, in addition to the choir singing at Assistant Living Facilities and various Charitable events across the city.

The choir’s ultimate goal is to launch a Youth Division and to Record its First Local CD. Most importantly hosting quarterly workshops to instruct, teach and train in the Gospel Music Industries to local, regional community churches.
