Outreach:
South Shore Reaches Out – This ministry is aimed at people who want to address needs in the surrounding community. A list of active needs within a 25 mile radius of South Shore UMC, can be found here .
Backpacks on a Mission – This group meets weekend food insecurity for children in need, working with one of our local elementary schools. They supply backpacks full of staples and nutritious snacks on Fridays, and the children return them on Monday, to be refilled again that week.
United Methodist Women – United Methodist Women is a community whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom of whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. Members grow in faith and understanding through prayer, Bible study, worship, reflection and missions.
Missions Team– This group works to restore, renew and empower people for the glory of God by reaching out to meet the needs of others in our local and extended communities. Representatives of the many ministries of the church and community, including the Good Samaritan Mission, Lil Manatee Girl Scout Service Unit, and FAVE Boating Expeditions, work together to support each other in missions. If you are part of an organization that would like to join this group, let us know.
Pastoral Care – Pastoral care team members do hospital and homebound care for members of our church congregation.
Stephen Ministry – SSUMC trained Stephen ministers provide one-one-one Christian caregiving and assist the Pastor in providing a quality care ministry to anyone who is facing life challenges.
Holiday Team - This team of folks identify families in need of food, clothing, toys and gifts for Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are the liason between area schools and the church, and empower the congregation to provide assistance while growing in the area of extravagant generosity. Find out how you can give to these families this year by calling Kathi at the church office.
Inside service opportunities:
Worship:
Lay Readers – This area is for those who are called to leading worship by reading scripture, or performing responsive readings in the worship service.
Ushering- Ushers perform duties at each worship service such as handing out registration pads, collecting and counting the offering, and assisting the Pastor with Holy Communion.
Greeting- Greeters are the first friendly folks that guests meet when arriving at worship. There are three levels of greeters; door greeters, welcome center greeters who greet guests and regular attenders and assist them in getting name tags, and logistics greeters who escort guests to appropriate places in the building.
Parking – Come join this new ministry in the life of SSUMC! This team helps with the inflow and outflow of traffic before and after each worship service.
House Manager – Members of this team assist worship coordinator by managing worship details on a monthly basis on Sunday mornings. Includes in-house greeting of worship leaders, following and facilitating rehearsal schedule, collecting numbers from small groups and children’s ministries, and helping with set-up and breakdown.
Hospitality- Calling all bakers and goodie makers! Become a part of a growing ministry as we reach out to more and more in our church and community. There are many opportunities to serve:
